Kerrville House Concerts

Hosted By Jack & Barbara Fields

Having heard about the Rouse House Concerts in Austin & Urban Campfires in San Antonio we were interested in the idea of having quality music presented in an intimate home setting.  We attended a seminar on house concerts at the Kerrville Folk Festival and decided that we would like to sponsor a house concert series.  With the help of Kathleen Hudson of the Texas Heritage Music Foundation we presented Shake Russell to about 75 people in our home on 8/28/98.  After we recovered from our wonderful night with Shake we decided that we would try it again.  Kathleen was able to get Darden Smith to come play for 45 of us on 11/19/98.  The night was so great that we decided to hold a house concert on a more or less bi-monthly basis.  On 1/22/99 we were privileged to have Vance Gilbert  He played to a rapt audience of about 40 people.  If you want an idea of what this house concert was like please read Kathleen's article on page 4 of the Kerrville Daily Times Applause section dated 1/31.  On Sunday 2/21/99 we featured Kerrville New Folk winners Small Potatoes.  The crowd was small but a big time was had by all. Barton & Sweeney  were our next performers on Friday, 4/30/99.  This is a must see act.    We had Doc Mason & Some Other Guys on May 7th.  Doc is a regular out at Luckenbach, he has played at Willie's Fourth of July Picnic & at the 150th anniversary bash.

Our 1st Anniversary concert on August 20th featured....... Shake Russell & Dana Cooper .  It was an outstanding, sold-out performance.  We had Eric Taylor on October 22nd, Chris Taylor on November 5, and Emily Kaitz & Michael Veitch on November 19th.  We had an early Sunday concert with Tom Prasada-Rao at 6:30 PM on December 5th.  Darden Smith was next on 2/19/2000.  Allen Wayne Damron played on 3/25/2000, he did his 2nd set outside on the deck.  It was outstanding!  Christine Albert & Chris Gage gave a great concert on 4/14/2000.  We took a break for the folk festival & summer vacation, then got ready for another sold out concert by Shake Russell & Dana Cooper  on 8/25/00 with John M opening.  Susan Shore was our next show, on 10/27/2000. Part of the Problem opened for Ruthie Foster on 11/17/00.  We started 2001 with Small Potatoes on 01/19/2001, Part of the Problem on 2/23/01 and Lui Collins & Bob Franke on 3/2/01.
We took a break to get ready for the Kerrville Folk festival and then had Shake Russell & Dana Cooper on 8/11/01. Lady Jane Gray  was next on 9/22/01 followed by Rex Foster on 11/3/0 and Tom Prasada-Rao on 12/7/01.  Next, we had Ruthie Foster on 1/26/02 and TheBluehouse (from Australia) on 3/2/02.  We used the rest of the spring getting ready for the folk festival.
Shake Russell & Beth Williams were our next show on 10/5/02, followed by Bill Ward on 11/23/02 and Tom Prasada-Rao   on 12/15/02.   My stepson & his family moved in with us so we had to go on hiatus for a while since our concert area became their living room.  We came back with Tom Prasada-Rao   on 12/14/03 & then  Darden Smith   on January 24th, 2004..  The next Kerrville House Concert was Saturday, December 4th, 2005  featuring Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper (The Dreamsicles) .

The music starts around 8:00, we take a break around 9:00 for a pot-luck supper (please bring a covered dish or dessert).  There will be a second set after the break that should end around 11:00.  We ask for a $10.00 donation per person with all funds going to the performer.  Advance reservations are suggested as we are setting up for only 40.

We are located at 1025 High Pointe Dr, Kerrville Texas.  High Pointe is located above the Shalako subdivision off Goat Creek Rd, you take the 1st right turn off Goat Creek if you are coming from exit 501 on IH 10 towards Kerrville; it is the 1st left after Goat Creek Cut-Off & The Crossing KOA if you are coming from Kerrville.  We put out signs showing the way starting in Shalako, it is two miles from Goat Creek to our house.
